Why I Learn Italian Online
Not so long ago, I remember, my aunt from Venice always sent me photos. The photos included beautiful boats streaming, a city on a river, awesome bridges, and some foreign-looking people (my aunt is not Italian at birth). I knew I wanted to live with my auntie on this Floating City.
Living in a foreign country means I have to learn that country’s language—lest I want to get lost in the middle of an important conversation. Knowing that Venice is from Italy, then I have to learn Italian. The task, however, of looking for the way and time to learn Italian proves to be a hard task. Looking for a foreign language school is a tad bit difficult. I found a private tutor but he is asking for a fortune, so the idea of employing him is off.
All hopes lost on finding a way to study Italian, I consulted a friend who is proficient in foreign languages, particularly European. “Then,” she tells me “Why not learn Italian online?”
What a great idea! I then I looked for online courses. Some offered great lessons for affordable prices, and some even offered lessons for free! Not everything worked for me but this one does. And in fact, I can study whenever I want to, so this is also wonderful for my crying calendar.
So then I started to learn Italian online. Honestly speaking, it was at first a bit challenging to learn another language. New sentences, new words, new phrases, and new expressions are easily forgotten when they are not applied in real life. Learning is not just studying things in its self but also applying the knowledge you have acquired, otherwise the knowledge will quickly deteriorate.
But then there was an advantage in my way of studying Italian. Since I am studying it online, I just looked for other people who were learning the language, then I got acquainted with them, and then we soon were having conversations in the Italian language. It was fun, not only because we were conversing in another language so foreign to us, but because we were conversing with different people from different places. We talked about their culture, their art, their fashion, their fads and crazes in the language we were studying.
After some time of studying and learning Italian, I may say I have become proficient in the language. It was enjoyable, and now I can talk to more people.
